Handywoman Pattern Boat Shuttles, weaving tools

Handywoman Pattern Boat Shuttles, weaving tools

PriceFrom $49.99

Pattern shuttles are used to create interesting patterns in your weaving projects. These types of pattern shuttles have been around for many years and were even made with farm tools but I've given them a useful update.
A great article on how to use a pattern shuttle in Handwoven Magazine is here:  https://handwovenmagazine.com/weaving-with-a-wave-stick/

The Handywoman Pattern boat shuttles (brand new design)  come with either the gentle curve or the more severe curve pattern. The pattern boat shuttles takes 6" paper quills.
This is the best video on how to hand wind a paper quill or spool and was shared with me so I share it with you!

Each of these pattern shuttles currently are made in a few different wood species but there will be other options soon.  The edges are beveled by hand to aid in beating the pattern into place.
Each shuttle is handmade and hand sanded and waxed to a satin shine so no two will be exactly alike.  I will have different patterns soon so stay tuned for that.

The boat pattern shuttle is 22" long and 1/2" thick.

I hope you love my new shuttle, I have had many requests for a pattern shuttle over the last couple years and have finally found the time to design one that I think you will love.

Years ago people found objects around the house or farm to create patterns in their weaving... they even used hay saws...so no this is not a new thing to weaving but it is a new tool to my shop.  The addition of the bobbin I think adds a great feature.  Load up a bunch of quills with some fancy yarns (thinner works best on the quill)  and warp your thicker yarn around the shuttle the same way you'd fill a rug shuttle and sit down and have some creative fun!!!

  • Handywoman tools are handmade and no two items will be exactly a like because of this. I take care to spend as much time on your new tool as possible while offering you the best possible price.  Because your tool is not commercially made and because my mission to offer low cost weaving tools your tool will not look like mass produced weaving tools so please keep that in mind.

To care for a Handywoman shuttle:  The stainless steel bar can be cleaned with fine wool (even a rinsed out SOS pad that is completely dry)  You can wax your shuttle as often as you like but the lanolin from your hands will keep it waxed up if you use your shuttles often.  Because wood and metal are a difficult thing to glue together sometimes a magnet may fall out of your shuttle.  Simple put a drop of superglue in the magnet pocket and drop the magnet back into place and let dry.  If at anytime your shuttle breaks.  You are welcome to send it to me for repair.  Contact me first so I can decide if it’s fixable or not.    I do not charge to repair my shuttles, you only have to pay the actual postage each way.

If you are purchasing a weaving tool in Purpleheart, know that when this wood is tooled it loses some color, but rest assured over time it will become purple again.   Also know that burls and spalted woods are not as strong as other woods and care needs to be taken  in storing them when these woods are used,  rough handling just isn’t possible.  They are more about having a beautiful tool and will need more care.

Handywoman shop will be closed till the end of April so she can get some work done on her home.  All orders that are already in will be made before I stop working so rest assured you will get your order :)
